A new old Navy store is set to open later this week at Kohl's Shopping Center off Boston Post Road (Route 1) near I-95 and I-287.

General Manager Rocco Evans has worked for Old Navy for eight years and manages other area stores,. But Port Chester's new store marks Evans' first opening from start to finish.

Evans told Daily Voice that he, other staff and contractors have been working round-the-clock to open on-time and with a bang before Independence Day shopping sales and sprees.

"It's going to be a really nice location," Evans said. "I'm really excited."

Some people have already been hired for jobs, but Tuesday's will be the Port Chester store's first formal "job hiring" event. It begins right in front of the store at noon and will run until 6 p.m. Computer tablets will be provided to help in-person applicants with paperwork, but others interested in jobs also can apply online.

"We have to hire 50 people,'' Evans said. "We've already started hiring."

Job applicants are encouraged to bring resumes and expect to be interviewed. "Hiring events are really cool,''' Evans said, noting some applicants may be offered jobs "on the spot," if they are a good match. Evans said he thinks the new Port Chester store will appeal to area high school and college students seeking summer employment.

Not only is the shopping center popular, thriving and conveniently located, Evans said, but the new store is expected to complement other new mixed-use development planned across the street at the former United Hospital and along the village's waterfront. Meanwhile, the Village of Port Chester continues to build upon its reputation as a hot entertainment and diverse restaurant destination.

The Old Navy store's official opening is slated for Thursday, June 28, although a "soft opening" may happen sooner if construction work is complete and the store has been stocked.

If you show up on Thursday, expect clowns, balloons and other surprises, Evans said, in addition to Old Navy's usual wide selection of clothing, other band name merchandise and some major sales. One summer sale, Evans said, includes $1 flip flops.
